SurveyLang

SurveyLang is a European consortium made up of in leading organsations in the fields of test development, sampling and data collection, as well as in educational measurement, cognitive psychology, research design, scaling, and data analyses.

SurveyLang has been commissioned by the European Commission to carry out the European Survey in Language Competences project.

SurveyLang is committed to working together with the European Commission and participating countries to address and successfully meet possible challenges such as:

  • Providing policy makers in each participating country with a baseline profile of the skills and competences in reading, writing and listening of students in their country in two foreign languages;
  • identifying and measuring contextual indicators that provide important insights into how measured language skills relate to selected demographic, social, economic and educational variables;
  • providing the possibility to establish trend indicators in language skills in previous cycles that result from the ongoing design and cyclical nature of the data collections;
  • providing policy makers with frameworks based on current research and theory and which provide important understandings about what is being measured and important links to public policy; and,
  • providing policymakers, researchers and others with an information system that can be accessed and used for further dissemination and policy analysis.
